Overview

Typically no organization relies on a single dashboard - rather multiple dashboards are needed and used. It is highly desirable to have a simple means letting users navigate between these dashboards. This sample will demonstrate one approach to facilitating this.

DashboardNavigator

DashboardNavigator is a Silverlight class library that provides an example navigation control for the current running instance of Dundas Dashboard.

How to use DashboardNavigator

DashboardNavigator provides a Silverlight user control called Navigator which will provide a simple navigation interface for the dashboards.

Adding References

The Silverlight class library requires references to the Dundas Dashboard assemblies. The assemblies are included with the installation of Dundas Dashboard and can be typically be found in the following path.

C:\Program Files\Dundas Data Visualization Inc\Dundas Dashboard\{Version number}\SDK\lib

The Silverlight class library, DashboardNavigator, requires the Dundas.Dashboard.Client.dll and can be found in the Client fold.

Using DashboardNavigator

Add the Navigator user control to the Silverlight application.
Example:

Set the following properties on the Navigator user control:
DashboardServerUri - the URL of the current running instance of Dundas Dashboard.
DashboardSessionId - the Dundas Dashboard session id for the current logged in user.

How to Use the Sample

In order to run the sample included with the source code, you will need to perform the following:

Download and Install the Silverlight Toolkit

The Silverlight Toolkit is a collection of controls, components and utilities from Microsoft. The sample uses some controls from the Silverlight Toolkit.

The Silverlight Toolkit is available from CodePlex, http://silverlight.codeplex.com/. Download and install the latest release.

Adding References

The ASP.NET web application requires references to the Dundas Dashboard assemblies. The assemblies are included with the installation of Dundas Dashboard and can be typically be found in the following path.

C:\Program Files\Dundas Data Visualization Inc\Dundas Dashboard\{Version number}\SDK\lib

The ASP.NET web application, DashboardNavigator.Web, requires the Dundas.Dashboard.Server.Integration.dll, found in the Server folder.

Configuration

The sample needs to be configured for the current running instance of Dundas Dashboard by modifying the Web.config file. The Web.config file can be found in the DashboardNavigator.Web project. There are three keys in the appSetting section of the Web.config file that is used by the sample.

1. DashboardUri
The URL of the current running instance of Dundas Dashboard. E.g. http://localhost:2000

2. DashboardViewerUsername
The user name of the viewer account. E.g. Viewer

3. DashboardViewerPassword
The password of the viewer account. E.g. 1234
