Overview

Dundas Dashboard is a comprehensive, web-based application and platform that lets you create, manage, and deliver both performance dashboards and analytical dashboards. With Dundas Dashboard, you can easily create interactive dashboards for your sales and marketing departments, develop strategic dashboards for executives to monitor business objectives, or use analytical dashboards to visualize detailed OLAP data. This flexibility is achieved through the use of a collaborative, multi-stage approach to an overall dashboard initiative that lets users with different skill sets in your organization work together on the same dashboarding effort.

What's new in version 5.0

The latest version of Dundas Dashboard introduces a range of new features, including scheduled reports for automating data export, four new types of radar charts, paging for data grids, and the ability to dynamically choose different KPI measures and dimensions while viewing a dashboard.

See the Version 5.0 Release Notes for the complete list of new features.

Collaborative approach to dashboarding

At Dundas, we recognize that successful completion of a dashboard initiative is best achieved when you can incorporate expertise from diverse areas, such as database administration, business analysis, and graphics design. However, in many current dashboarding projects, business people are unable to participate directly in dashboard-creation efforts because of the high level of technical expertise these projects require. Dundas Dashboard bridges this gap in the dashboarding field by resolving the process of creating a dashboard into clearly defined stages and allowing multi-user collaboration. This collaborative approach lets business analysts, for example, focus on what they do best - defining KPIs and contextual metrics for monitoring business performance. Managers and executives can even get directly involved with designing the layout for dashboards.

Typical dashboard creation workflow

Dundas Dashboard fully supports the typical dashboard creation workflow, which takes a linear approach and begins with the data.

In the first stage, the goal is to prepare a unified view of the business data sources that will be powering your dashboards. To achieve this, connections to physical data sources are made using data connectors and uniform views are defined in the form of virtual tables and virtual cubes.

Once virtual tables and virtual cubes are available they can be used to define your business metrics, such as KPIs and datasets. A typical objective of this stage is to set up the measures, dimensions, contextual metrics, and filters for KPIs.

In the dashboard design stage, you create dashboards by assembling datasets, KPIs, data visualization controls, and general UI controls on a graphical design surface. Completed dashboards can then be viewed and interacted with by your users.

Optimized dashboard development

Dundas Dashboard also supports an optimized approach to dashboard development which is based on the use of stubbed KPIs. The key principle is that you start by defining the business metrics first. Once business metrics are available, the dashboard design stage and the data stage can proceed in parallel, thus streamlining the overall dashboard development process.
