During the Dundas Dashboard installation procedure, a service called Dundas Dashboard Scheduler Service is created. This service runs any caching process based on the schedule you may have set up on a data connector.

The scheduler service is also required to use scheduled reports and notifications.

The account that the Scheduler Service runs as must have:

  • Permission to access to the Dundas Dashboard application database.
  • Permission to access the data source referenced by each data connector that is set up to be cached based on a schedule.
  • Permission to write to the ScheduleListener.log file, which is located here by default: C:\Program Files\Dundas Data Visualization Inc\Dundas Dashboard\{InstanceName}\Services\DashboardScheduler\.
  • Permission to write to the Windows Event Viewer (for logging purposes).

It is recommended to create a user specifically for this service to run as and have your database administrator add this user to your source database servers and grant permission to the required source databases.

Changing the account the service runs as

To change the account that the Scheduler Service runs as:

  1. Open the Services list by either:
    • Clicking Start -> Run and typing Services.msc and hit Enter
    • Clicking Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
  2. Scroll down to Dundas dashboard Scheduler Service – Version Number
  3. Right Click this service and select Properties
  4. Navigate to the Log On tab and select ‘This Account’
  5. Specify the new user name and password for this service to use

Changing other configuration settings

Other Dundas Dashboard Scheduler settings can be changed via the Dundas Dashboard Configuration File. See the Scheduler Settings section near the end of the file.

The scheduler service also has its own configuration file, Dundas.Dashboard.Scheduler.exe.config, which is used to specify settings for logging purposes only. You can find this configuration file in the following folder by default:

C:\Program Files\Dundas Data Visualization Inc\Dundas Dashboard\{InstanceName}\Services\DashboardScheduler\

Running in 32-bit or 64-bit mode (PlatformTargeter)

The Scheduler.PlatformTargeter utility lets you easily configure the Dundas Dashboard Scheduler to run in either 32-bit mode or 64-bit.

An example scenario where you may need this utility is as follows:

  • You are running Dundas Dashboard on a 64-bit machine.
  • You need to connect to a certain data source but the only drivers available for it are 32-bit.

In this case, one option is to run your IIS or application pool in 32-bit mode so that the 32-bit drivers will function correctly. However, in order for scheduled imports of this data source to work, you must also configure the Dundas Dashboard Scheduler to run in 32-bit mode.

To use the platform targeter utility:

  1. Navigate to the folder where the utility is located. By default, this location is:
    • C:\Program Files\Dundas Data Visualization Inc\Dundas Dashboard\{instance}\Services\DashboardScheduler
  2. Double-click the file Scheduler.PlatformTargeter.exe to launch the utility.
  3. Select the Platform Target.
  4. Click Set.
