Overview

The Dataset Setup Wizard helps you to perform the initial configuration of your dataset. Using this wizard, you first select an existing virtual table (or virtual cube) to base the dataset upon. Next, you choose columns from the virtual table (or choose measures/dimensions from the virtual cube) to represent the columns of your dataset.

The Dataset Setup Wizard appears automatically when you create a new dataset from the Design Explorer.

Dataset based on a virtual table

To set up a dataset using a virtual table as a base:

  1. In the first step of the wizard, select a virtual table from the grid, then click Next.
The first step of the Dataset Setup Wizard.
  2. In the second step of the wizard, select one or more virtual table columns from the grid.
Selecting columns from a virtual table.
  3. The third step of the wizard shows the columns that you chose in the previous step. Select one or more of the listed columns for which you want to create a public filter.
    Selecting filter columns.

Tip: Click the checkbox in the header of the Select grid column to select all virtual table columns at once.

Dataset based on a virtual cube (OLAP)

To set up a dataset using a virtual cube as a base:

  1. In the first step of the wizard, select a virtual cube from the grid, then click Next.
The first step of the Dataset Setup Wizard.
  2. In the second step of the wizard, select desired cube measures from the grid, then click Next.
Selecting measures from a virtual cube.
  3. In the third step of the wizard, select desired cube dimensions from the grid.
Selecting dimensions from a virtual cube.

Tip: Click the checkbox in the header of the Select grid column to select all cube measures or dimensions.

Tip: Use the search box in the top-right corner to filter the list of available measures or dimensions.

Completing the wizard

To complete your work with the Dataset Setup Wizard, click Finish. The wizard closes and the Dataset Designer is displayed in the content area of the application. Use the Dataset Designer to complete the configuration of your dataset.
