Overview

Use a dashboard template to define a common theme or base from which to design new dashboards. For example, if you want to create a set of dashboards with the same banner and background graphics, you can put these common elements in a dashboard template, and then use the template to create new dashboards.

This article shows how to create and modify templates. To actually create a new dashboard based on a template, see Creating a New Dashboard.

Using dashboard templates

To create a new dashboard based on a template, or apply a template to an existing dashboard, see Creating a New Dashboard.

Merging a dashboard template

If you have a dashboard with an applied template, you can use the Merge Template option to apply all of the properties from the template to the dashboard at once, and then de-link the template from the dashboard. If the template is subsequently modified, this will have no effect on the dashboard because the association between the template and the dashboard is now removed.

To merge the template that a dashboard is using, first select the dashboard. Then click the Element dropdown button in the toolbar. From the dropdown menu, choose Merge Template.

Merge Template option.

Merge Template option.

After merging, the Template property of the dashboard is reset back to (None).
