Overview

This article describes the installation and configuration steps that are required for deploying Dundas Dashboard in a load balanced, web server farm. Additionally, there are licensing details for a web farm deployment which you can discuss further with your Dundas Account Manager.

Installation

In general, Dundas Dashboard needs to be installed on each of your front end servers, and they must all point to the same centralized instance of the Dundas Dashboard application DataStore and Sync databases on your database server. This will let each Dashboard instance respond to web requests independently, but communicate with the same database server to make sure content changes and views are synchronized.

Install Dundas Dashboard normally on one server

The first step is to choose one of your front end servers where you will install Dundas Dashboard normally. For example, follow the Advanced Installation steps.

When you get to the Deployment Center's Application Database screen, choose the option to Create new Dundas Dashboard databases on your database server.

Install on other servers using existing databases

Next, install Dundas Dashboard on the remaining front end servers, but choose the option to Use existing Dundas Dashboard databases when you get to the Deployment Center's Application Database screen. This option will link the Dashboard instance to the centralized application DataStore and Sync databases on your database server.

Configuration

Make sure the Scheduler Service is running on only one server

The Dundas Dashboard Scheduler Service is normally created as part of the installation procedure on a server. This service handles the scheduling of data imports and sync database caching.

You must ensure that the Scheduler Service is running on only one of your servers. On all other servers, the Scheduler Service must be disabled.

Licensing

Each front end server where Dundas Dashboard is installed must have its own licenses (⪚ server license and viewer licenses). This means that each server will have its own license file.

Your Dundas Account Manager can give you more details about licensing for web farm deployments and help you to acquire the optimal number of licenses for your setup (including specifics about designer/developer licenses in such scenarios).
