Overview

From the General tab of the KPI Designer, you can choose a pre-defined unit of measurement for your KPI's measure values. Examples of pre-defined units include:

Global definition

Unit definitions are global to the &dw; application - they are not project-based. If you add a new unit of measurement or modify one of the pre-defined units, those changes will be accessible to other designers as well.

You can manage units in the application by accessing the Unit Manager from the Administration Explorer in the Sidebar. See Dundas Dashboard Administration for more details.

Alternatively, you can add a new unit of measure or modify an existing unit directly from the General tab of the KPI Designer, as shown in the sections below.

Adding a new unit of measure

To add a new unit from the General tab of the KPI Designer:

  1. Click the Unit of measure dropdown list and choose <New Unit>. The Create New Unit dialog is displayed.

  2. Type a long name for the unit in the Long name box. In general, this name should be plural.
  3. Type a short name for the unit in the Short name box.
  4. Specify a format string for displaying values based on this unit:
    • Click the button beside the Format string box. The Text Format dialog is displayed.
    • In the Text Format dialog, select a format category from the list on the left.
    • Enter other details about the format as required on the right (⪚ number of decimal places).

    • Click OK. The Text Format dialog closes and the format string is updated in the Create New Unit dialog.
  5. Enter a description for the unit in the Description box.

  6. Click Finish. The Create New Unit dialog closes and the new unit is selected in the Unit of measure dropdown list.

Editing an existing unit

To edit the currently selected unit in the General tab of the KPI Designer:

  1. Click the Edit unit button beside the Unit of measure dropdown list. The Edit Unit dialog is displayed.
  2. Type a new long name for the unit in the Long name box. In general, this name should be plural.
  3. Type a new short name for the unit in the Short name box.
  4. Specify a format string for displaying values based on this unit.
  5. Enter a new description for the unit in the Description box.
  6. Click Finish.
